SIERRA LEONE

May 19, 2008 (Viewed 412 times)

Sierra LeoneSierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in Africa and democracy in the country is just recovering after more than a decade of civil war.

God is doing a mighty work in this war torn nation and our churches continue to grow. This is their report:

It is our joy to report that we have planted a total of 48 churches in Sierra Leone as of March. The tempo of the church planting activities continues to rise. Worthy of note is the fact that 90% of these churches are planted in Muslim strongholds. Comparatively, there is an increase in the number of baptism and converts. This is due to the fact that much premium is placed on discipleship and church planting movement trainings. The equipping centre, which serves as a training ground for our pastors and church planters in the rural areas is still effective in its responsibilities. A total of 220 leaders were trained in the various equipping centers in the country. Plans are under way to establish the equipping centers in Liberia and Nigeria.

Following are two among the many testimonies of changed lives in Sierra Leone:

My name is Musha Kabba. I’m 13 years old. My parents were killed during the war. Since I have no one to support me, I dropped out of school and became an outcast. I was arrested and locked up when I stole some money from a small girl who was sent to buy kerosene. I was abandoned in the prison cell. While in prison, I was invited to attend the discipleship session. I got saved and surrendered my life to Jesus.

My name is James Kandesh, 37 years old. I was a Muslim. After attending the seminar on church planting, I was fired up. I went to my village with the determination to plant churches. With this zeal, I have planted five churches.

We are very much grateful to God for His steadfast love. The psalmist rightly said: We are his people and the sheep of his pasture. This is the
source of our joy.
